Thanks to everyone who attended the end of season banquet. For those of you who could not attend, you missed out on a lot of fun. This year's banquet was held at Round Table Pizza in Kennewick, followed by racing at Indy Kart across the street. Everyone had a great time!
Club president Jim Berkey and vice president Nate Canfield gave reports on the accomplishments that the club has made this past season. These included:
New site location, Tri-City Raceway, (Jim Berkey and Nate Canfield)
New registration and timing forms (made by Nate Canfield)
New timing computer monitor and cable connectors (purchased and put together by Chip Hammond)
The timing trailer was painted and repaired (by Gene Wattenburger)
Advertising poster posted at various automotive outlets around our area (Mitch Lewis).
Jim Berkey also gave an informative report on the financial status of the club. Due to the higher costs of running at Tri-City Raceway, and the additional money spend on repairs, website and advertising, the club ended up losing $600 at the end of the season. Jim reported that if only an additional 2.5 people attended each event the club would have broke even. But due to a substantial savings account built from successful seasons past, we are okay for beginning next season.
Jim announced that he and Nate would be stepping down as president and vice-president, but that they would continue on as Treasurer and Webmaster respectively. He nominated Mitch Lewis for president and Victor and Vickie Livengood as co-vice presidents. There was actually a misunderstanding when Jim also nominated Vickie Livengood as Secretary, as she wanted to be co-vice president with her husband. Less than one week after the banquet, Bob Bromm has now volunteered to be Secretary. Thanks Bob!! Jim Walker also volunteered to be the clubs Safety Steward for all of 2004.
Eleven door prizes were given, including two free passes to Indy Karts, a racing video from Option-R, a free pizza from Round Table Pizza and more. Many thanks go out to our sponsors. If you get a chance, let the management at those businesses know you appreciate them.
Then it was time for the trophy presentation. The trophies were fantastic this year! Vickie Livengood designed some clever special trophies. You had to be there as Vickie's trophies are beyond description!
Cone Killer was given to Steve Schreiber
Rookie of the Year was given to Josh Stading
Spinout award was given to Jeremy Smith
Worker of the Year was given to Gene Wattenburger
Quietest Car was given to Jim Berkey
Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Mikey Hall.
Nate Canfield & Colleen Warnecke designed some great class winners trophies, which Nate and Jim handed out. Everyone was pleasantly surprised to see that each individual trophy had the recipient's name and a picture of their car on them! Very well done.
Following the trophy presentation, the new officers asked if anyone had suggestions for next season. Some great ideas were discussed and recorded. The officers have already met once since the banquet and are developing a plan to continue the growth of the club.
As the new club president, I would like to again thank Jim and Nate for building up the club to what it is today. Victor, Vickie Bob and myself are very lucky to inherit the club in such great shape! We plan to continue that positive growth next season!
