SSSCC Meeting Minutes March 9th, 6-8pm

Minutes taken by Mitch Lewis

We had our biggest turn out ever at Wednesday nights meeting.  It was standing room only!

TREASURER'S REPORT

Bob Bromm gave the treasurers report.  Thanks to a successful winter series, we've almost paid for the new timing equipment AND our 2005 insurance.  NOTE: I remember when the club could barely afford to pay the insurance at the start of the season, so this is great news!

PURCHASE ADDITIONAL CONES

Lynn Rogers reported on how much it would cost to purchase additional cones.  They are available in the standard orange color as well as lime green.  Lynn proposed that we purchase some green ones for drivers training (mark apex of corners) as well as general use (pointer cones).  He proposed we purchase 50 green and 50 orange cones for a total cost of $500.  The members voted to spend $500, but to keep researching with the hopes we could find an even better deal.  Please contact Lynn <rogersla@owt.com>  if you know of a good place to purchase cones.

DUPLICATE CAR NUMBERS

David Crabtree discussed the problems we've been having with MAE and duplicate car numbers.  Once again it was suggested that we require class letters as well as car numbers but the idea was met with resistance from the club.  It was agreed that until we are up and running with the new timing equipment, we wouldn't make any decisions on car numbers or class letters.  It was suggested that everyone try and make their own magnetic numbers (except for Bob Fiberglass Bromm!).  They are very easy to make and are inexpensive.  You can purchase the material at any craft store.

CHIEF'S MEETING

The date for the 2005 Chief's pre-season meeting was set for April 9th, 1:30pm at the Country Gentlemen on the corner of highway 395 and Vista Way in Kennewick.  Please contact Victor <livengoods@ssscc.org> ASAP if you can't make the meeting.  The list of 2005 Chief's is shown at the end of this email.

EVENT #1 IN YAKIMA

SSSCC Event #1 will be held April 16th at the Yakima Sundome parking lot.  We will run a schedule similar to the winter series schedule.  A/B run groups in the morning, break for lunch (registration re-opens and course open for walking) and then A/B run groups run again in the afternoon.  This is to accommodate people from the west side, so they can at least run in the afternoon run group.  NOTE: $25/$20 entry fee will cover all runs for the entire day.  If you show up for the morning run group, you are also eligible for additional runs in the afternoon.  But, if you choose to show up only for the afternoon session, the entry fees will still be $25/$20.  Pre-registration for this event will open shortly <http://myautoevents.com>

Power isn't available on the course for the timing trailer so Greg Swank volunteered to bring his generator.  Gene Wattenburger will bring his motorhome to use as the timing trailer.  Mitch Lewis, Gene and Greg also volunteered to bring cones and equipment as our current timing trailer isn't in good enough shape to tow to Yakima.  If your driving a pickup to Yakima and can help haul some of the clubs equipment, please let Mitch know <mitch@ssscc.org>.

SUNDAY EVENT IN YAKIMA

NWR-SCCA Event, Sunday April 17th.  We discussed what it takes to participate in the NWR-SCCA event that will be held in Yakima the very next day.  The NWR entry fees are the same as ours ($25 or $20) and we're working on getting SSSCC members the $5 member discount.  Snell 95 helmets are required, but they have loaner helmets available.  They tech cars a little more thoroughly than we do, so make sure your car is empty and everything is tied down.  Their class structure is almost identical to our new 2005 class structure.  NWR-SCCA < http://www.nwr-scca.org/solo/Classes04.htm>  SSSCC < http://www.ssscc.org/2005/2005classes.html>   Also, they split the day into two events.  I believe stock classes run in the morning and non-stock in the afternoon.  Novice drivers can choose to run in either.  For example, if you run E-stock, you will run/work in the morning and be done by approximately 1:30pm!  Or if you run Street Mod, you can show up around 11:30am, run from 1:30-5:00pm.  This is how they accommodate the 150 entries they normally receive at their events.  Last year at the Yakima event, 150 people drove over from the Seattle/Portland area, but only 5 people attended from Tri-Cities and Yakima.

NOVICE DRIVERS SCHOOL

The date for the 2005 Novice Drivers School is Friday night, May 20th, 6-8:00pm (classroom session) and Saturday, May 21st at Dust Devils(driving session).  Bob Bromm is taking registration for the event. <cybernuke@charter.net>  He will take your name, but your spot officially won't be reserved until he receives a check for $50.  Look for more information coming soon.

SITE SCHEDULE

It was decided that we would keep the site schedule as is.  2 weekends at TCR and 3 weekends at Dust Devils.

NORTHWEST CLUB MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNTS

The club is working on reciprocating membership discounts with other Northwest clubs.  We're currently working with NWR-SCCA so that SSSCC members can receive a discount at their Yakima and Packwood events.  So far things are looking positive.  SCCA members will receive member discounts at SSSCC events if they present their SCCA national membership card.

AWARDS

It was decided that we would continue to give out paper awards in all classes except novice.  The club voted to give out a t-shirt to the winner of the Novice class.  Hopefully Traffic Jams will sponsor this 2005 Season t-shirt to offset the cost.

SOCIALS

Picking another restaurant to hold social events was discussed.  But no one could think of a restaurant that could accommodate large groups like Casa Chapalla.  Some of the restaurants discussed were: Ruff's, Majors, Carl's Jr.

PROMO CARDS

A redesign of the clubs Promo Card was discussed, but everyone seemed to like the old design, so we're going to stick with it for 2005.  Mitch is working on the card right now and hopefully we'll receive them in time for the Yakima events.

AIR COMPRESSOR

The idea of the club purchasing a small air compressor for use at all events was discussed.  Participants could use the compressor to top off their tires, fill air tanks, etc  UPDATE: A club member stepped up and purchased a small Sears air compressor and 25 foot air-line and donated it to the club!
