SSSCC Meeting Agenda - April 13, 2005

OLD BUSINESS

New Cones

We bought ninety orange cones, and will get ten green cones from Granger in the near future.

Chief's Meeting

Everyone got on the same page as far as registration, timing and safety issues (crowd control) at Dust Devils. It was decided to buy signs and attach them to the fence, warning walk-ins that the autocross course is a restricted area. Some appropriate signs were later found in the timing trailer and will be used at the next Dust Devil's event.

Cone Loading Party

Thanks to Kathy and Cody for allowing us to use Kathy's truck to load all of our cones and other supplies. The "party" was a big success.

Novice Drivers School

Thirty-one persons have registered for the Novice (Level One) Driving School. A room at Round Table Pizza has been reserved for Friday night's meeting prior to the school on Saturday. We are looking for other potential places to have the Friday meeting. There are only 9 spots available if you know anyone who is interested in attending.

Reciprocal Membership Discounts

NWR-SCCA (Yakima April event only) will allow SSSCC members to pay their discounted member rate for the Sunday event. We will do the same for them at our Saturday event.

Novice Awards

There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Novice trophies. They are being purchased from the Trophy shop for the first event, which is the East/West Challenge on Saturday, April 16th. We hope the East/West Challenge becomes an annual event.

Number of Awards

There are 15 classes x 5 positions = 78 awards (39 pages of printing required for each event) which is too much work. Jeremy will check on alternatives for awards; the use of plaques or stickers.

New timing system update

The JA Circuits box should be finished by the end of April. Until then we plan to use either AXWare or AutocrossScoreKeeper (ASK) for the April event (Event #1).

Advertising

The Promo Cards are done and available for anyone to use to help promote autocross in our community. Our 2005 schedule is printed on the back. Members are encouraged to hand these cards out to perspective members. But we're already almost out of them so we will get some more cards ordered. It cost $75 for 1,000 cards from 4ColorPrinting (online printer). It was decided to order an additional 1,000 cards as the first batch is almost gone. It was also discussed to prepare similar generic (no schedule) cards for use during the off-season, before the 2006 schedule is finalized. No decision was made on the generic cards.

Social Events

Mikey wants to find a new, lower cost restaurant as an alternative for the after-race social events. Major's Burgers, Roy's Smorgy and Old Country Buffet were suggested.

Sponsorship

Mitch will talk to Traffic Jams about paying their sponsorship fee. They may want to sponsor some t-shirts.

NEW BUSINESS

Event #1- Saturday, April 16th at Yakima Sundome

This will be a split event with NWR-SCCA. Set-up will be done on Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm at the Sundome. We are meeting at the Wal-Mart in Richland at 12:15 pm to caravan over. For those that plan on driving over Saturday morning, a caravan will meet at Build Your Own Burger on Clearwater/Badger Road at 5:45 am.

NWR-SCCA Event Sunday, April 17th at Yakima Sundome

We are running with the NWR-SCCA on Sunday, so we will have to follow the SCCA helmets and numbers/class letters rules for the event.

NWR-SCCA only allows SNELL 1995 helmets or newer, but loaner helmets are available. Floor mats must be removed and passengers are allowed on an instructor/student basis only.

If you plan to run with the NWR-SCCA on Sunday, Stock classes run in the morning. Modified classes are run in the afternoon. Novices can run either time. Be sure to check the NWR-SCCA web site to determine your run group. <http://www.nwr-scca.org/solo/Nextevent.htm>

Tech Issues

The tech officials are no longer going to tech cars if they are not ready to race. Please bring your car to the tech line in ready to race condition. Clean out the trunk and interior of loose items, remove floor mats unless they are anchored down, have your helmet with you, battery tied down, etcÉ Check with Greg Swank or Steve Schreiber for more details. Or check out the new online tech check list. <http://www.ssscc.org/2005/tech-checklist.html>

Ladies Night

The idea of a Ladies only event was discussed. A date was set for Friday evening, August 12th, prior to our scheduled Saturday/Sunday event. It will take about two hours, and we would need about fifteen volunteers to shag cones and keep timing.

Car Numbers

We now have several options available for magnetic car numbers. We can get them on E-Bay under magnetic numbers for $20 for both sides of the car; 12 x 24 sheets in an oval shape. They look great. Lowe's also has some magnetic sheets in the air filter department that you can add numbers to for under $5. Signs Now offers four numbers plus the 3 class letters for around $35.

We will clear out the clubs car number list after our first event. But we probably will go with unique numbers by class only. So that means that a lot more duplicate numbers will be available this season. In other words, you have a lot better chance getting the number you want.

Mod Shop

We would like to get members interested in showing off the modifications to their cars so we can see what makes a winning combination. This will help our members to be more competitive. This will become a regular part of our monthly agenda. Reid Lunde, owner of Kaizen Speed will be here at the May club meeting to present their performance products.
