Sand & Sage Sports Car Club

June 8th Club Meeting Minutes

We had 19 people in attendance and a very positive meeting it was, read on

Introductions and Sponsor thank yous - Master Transmissions / Autobahn Auto Care Center / Traffic Jams

Victor nominated Lynn for the position of Co-Vice President and he was voted in unanimously.  Congratulations, Lynn!

The treasurer's report was very encouraging.  In the past few months we have spent thousands on timing, cones, flags, etc.  But after the winter heat series, two events, sponsors and the driver school, our liquid assets are up to almost $10,000! If you are a club member and would like to see the exact numbers, feel free to contact Bob Bromm.

After months of delays and waiting, Mitch and Lynn unveiled our new timing system.  This system is amazing and it will lighten our workload immensely, especially in registration, timing and workers.  It is the product of over six months of research and patience.

Pre-registration is open for Events 3 and 4 @ MyAutoEvents.com.

The chiefs met last week in an effort to smooth out some event issues.  The following changes are needed to handle our growing numbers each event:

-We will continue to use timing cards.

-If you pre-register via MAE info will be printed on your timing card (saves time)

-Worker assignments will be given out during registration.

-All workers must now check-in with Course Control (or Mark Rieb) at each change over.

-Tech will now be checking for correct numbers and class.

The Gimmick Rally is this Saturday, June 11th.  This is sure to be fun and will end somewhere at a BBQ along the river.  The cost for this event is $20 per car, (two people) which includes the BBQ.  We only have a few slots left, please contact Bob if you would like to participate. Bob: 374-4309

Advertising.  Mitch reported that new Promo cards are now available; they include the new Ladies Night event in August.

Hastings Night.  Mikey reported that Hastings Night will be on Friday, June 24th at 7pm.  Shine up your ride and show it off in front of Hastings in Kennewick on highway 395.  We meet at Hastings once a year to help get the word out to the younger drivers that there is a legal way to race and that it can be done without breaking any laws.

Course design is the biggest factor for a great autocross event.  In order to ensure the best course designs possible, a committee has been established to oversee course design.  This Course design committee is there to assist the course designer and help ensure fun, fair and safe designs.  The committee will evaluate the proposed course design in terms of safety, flow and navigation and make recommendations to the designer.    Designs should be submitted two weeks prior to the event.  Currently the committee consists of Mitch, Lynn and Victor.  A list of our current design volunteers is included at the end of these meeting minutes.

Mitch announced that we have a new sponsor!  Traffic Jams, (check them out at their new location on Edison).

Norm is checking on the possibility of securing the old bus lot in Richland as a potential new event site.  Our club has used the site in the past with good success.  Can you say 27 cone slalom!

Everyone seemed happy with our new earlier event start times.   7:30-8:30am registration/tech, first car on course at 9:00 am (one hour earlier than normal).  We will continue with this schedule for the remainder of the season.

With the new timing software and MAE able to track car numbers, we no longer need to maintain a list of numbers.  In almost every case, everyone should be able to use what ever number they want for the season (limit 4 digits) The old online car number list will be archived and removed from the website.

June's autocross will be called Boys and their Toys'.  Course Designers: Mark Rieb and Stan Crow.  Stan Crow and Bob Bromm will be handling registration in David and Mikey's absence.  Bob Bromm will also be BBQing during the lunch break.  (NOTE: Bob's doing a lot at this event.  Let's all remember to ask Bob if he needs any help!)
